According to NIRF, the Top Ten IITs classified in India are as follows. The universities are classified from IIT Madras to IIT Bombay.

  1. IIT Madras: According to NIRF Ranking IIT Madras achieved India’s Best Engineering Institute for the past three years in a row. Chennai’s IIT Madras was founded in 1959 by the Indian government with the technical assistance of the West German government. IIT Madras is a residential institute comprises of 550 faculty, 8000 students and 1250 administrative & supporting staff
  2. IIT Delhi: In terms of top engineering institutes in India, IIT Delhi ranks the second position. IIT Delhi was earlier Known as the College of Engineering and Technology. The institute is known as IIT since 1963. The institute is situated in Delhi with a beautiful campus.
  3. IIT Bombay: It is considered the second-oldest IIT in India, It was founded in 1958 and is located in Powai, Mumbai. Students can choose from several graduate programs offered at the institute. The institute comprises 17 departments. It Includes 13 multidisciplinary centres with three outstanding schools.
  4. IIT Kharagpur: The institute is situated in Kharagpur West Bengal, and was founded in 1951. The Institute comprises 19 departments. In Addition to that, there are eight multidisciplinary centres, thirteen schools of excellence, and 25 divisions of research. IIT Kharagpur has a large library.
  5. IIT Roorkee: The Institute was founded in the year 1847. IIT Roorkee includes 21 academic departments offering 11 undergraduate programs, one integrated dual degree program and 61 postgraduate programs. It was designated India’s Fifth top IIT in 2001.
  6. IIT Guwahati: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, located on the Brahmaputra River’s northern bank, was established in 1994. This makes it India’s top sixth-oldest IIT. It is Including 11 academic departments and ten research centres. The institute is home to 215 faculty members and 300 support staff.
  7. IIT Hyderabad: IITH Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is a premier institute of science and technology established in 2008 in Telangana’s Sangareddy region. It is recognised for its academic reputation, research, and proximity to the country’s major IT hub. This Institute comprises 14 academic departments including Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in nine fields, as well as 285 B.Tech degree spots.
  8. IIT Dhanbad: This is a public technical institution in Dhanbad India, including the main campus of 218 acres. IIT (ISM) is a Nationally recognized Institute with 18 academic departments including Engineering, Applied Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Management. This institute is used to be called the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad.
  9. IIT Indore: It is one of the top Ninth Indian Institutes of Technology. IIT Indore was founded in 2009. IIT Indore is located at Simrol, Khandwa Road under 501.42 acres. IIT Indore offers a four-year B.Tech program in different engineering fields.
  10. IIT (BHU) Varanasi: The Banaras Engineering College, which is now known as the Indian Institute of Technology 2012, was founded in 1919 as the Banaras Engineering College. The institute comprises 14 academic departments including three multidisciplinary schools.
