One-Day Workshop on “Smart Assessments with OBE Approach: OBE Strategies, Precise Exam Design, and QnSmart i Implementation for Quality Education”- Sacred Heart College (Autonomous)

The IQAC of Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Chalakudy, in association with ipsr solutions limited, successfully organized a one-day workshop on “Smart Assessments with OBE Approach: OBE Strategies, Precise Exam Design, and QnSmart i Implementation for Quality Education” on March 5, 2025. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 60+ faculty members across 15+ departments, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing modern assessment methodologies in higher education.

Inaugural Session

The workshop commenced with a warm welcome address, setting the tone for a day of insightful learning and collaboration. The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including:  

– Principal Prof. (Dr.) Sr. Reena Ittyachan, who emphasized the importance of integrating Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and smart assessment tools in academia.

– Dr. V. Neetha, IQAC Coordinator, who highlighted the institution’s dedication to continuous improvement in educational practices.  

– Dr. Santhosh Paul, Controller of Examinations, who underscored the need for precise exam design and alignment with learning outcomes.  

The organizing team, including Dr. Laina AL and Ms. Fency K F, played a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless execution of the event.  

Outcome-Focused Academic Session

The academic session was led by Dr. Mendus Jacob, MD & CEO of ipsr solutions limited, who provided a comprehensive overview of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and Bloom’s Taxonomy. The session focused on bridging theoretical frameworks with practical implementation strategies, equipping participants with tools to design SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) learning outcomes.  

Key Themes Explored  

1. Foundations of OBE

•    Transitioning from traditional teaching methods to outcome-driven, student-centric learning.  
•     Aligning course objectives with societal and industry needs to reduce skill gaps among graduates.  

2. Bloom’s Taxonomy in Action 

•    Understanding the hierarchical structure of cognitive learning domains (Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, Creating).  
•    Redesigning assessments to foster higher-order thinking and deeper comprehension.  

3. Mapping Outcomes to Assessments

•    Designing rubrics and activities that directly reflect learning outcomes.  
•    Using curriculum mapping templates to visually align course outcomes with assessments.  

The session was highly interactive, featuring case study analyses, Q&A rounds, and collaborative activities. Participants praised the blend of theory and hands-on learning, leaving them equipped to redesign curricula with precision and purpose.  

Hands-On Implementation

The afternoon segment transitioned into a practical, hands-on session conducted in the computer lab. Participants engaged with QnSmart i, an innovative tool designed to streamline assessment processes and enhance evaluation strategies. Key activities included:  

• Creating OBE-aligned question banks using QnSmart i.  
• Exploring the AI-assisted academic platform, Questionpaper.ai, for efficient exam design.  

The session was facilitated by Mr. Nibin Sunny, with support from Mr. Nithin PM, ensuring a smooth and enriching experience for all participants.
