MES KEVEEYAM College, Valanchery, Malappuram, successfully hosted a One-Day National Workshop on “Demystifying Outcome-Based Education” on 20 June, 2025. The workshop aimed to provide faculty members and academic leaders with a deep understanding of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and to enable them to translate these concepts into effective teaching, learning, and assessment practices.

Inaugural Ceremony

The event began with a warm and gracious welcome, setting a positive and engaging tone for the day. The formal inauguration was carried out by Jb O C Salahudheen, Treasurer, MES Kerala, in the honorable presence of Dr Mohamedali P, Secretary, MES KEVEEYAM College Management Committee, and Mr Nisab T, Principal-in-Charge of MES KEVEEYAM College. The speakers emphasised the importance of embracing OBE principles to enhance academic excellence, institutional quality, and ensure students’ holistic growth. Mr Krishna Prabha KS, Programme Coordinator, offered a brief overview of the event and its significance in the current educational landscape.

Technical Session — Demystifying OBE

The core technical session was led by Dr Mendus Jacob, MD & CEO – ipsr solutions limited; Director, Valin Technologies (UK, USA, & Canada); and Professor & Director, MCA, Marian College Kuttikkanam (Autonomous). Dr Jacob offered profound insights into Outcome-Based Education, breaking down its concepts into actionable steps that can be readily adopted across disciplines.

Forenoon Session – Fundamentals and Framework of OBE
The morning session explored the fundamental concepts of Outcome-Based Education, focusing on defining Program Outcomes (POs), Program-Specific Outcomes (PSOs), and Course Outcomes (COs). The resource person engaged participants in a highly informative discussion on the processes of aligning learning outcomes with teaching-learning and evaluation practices. Real-life examples and effective course design templates were shared, allowing participants to gain practical knowledge of OBE planning and implementation.

Afternoon Session – Implementing OBE in Curriculum and Assessment Design
The afternoon session was equally insightful, with hands-on demonstrations on crafting outcome-oriented course plans and creating rubrics that accurately measure learning attainment. Participants were introduced to key tools and techniques for mapping outcomes and continuously improving academic processes. The interactive format encouraged participants to collaborate, raise queries, and exchange best practices.

During his presentation, he also introduced various academic platforms like deQ OBE, an innovative OBE platform that seamlessly integrates learning activities, assessments, course outcomes, and multi-dimensional reports. The platform supports both internal and external collaboration to enable Total Quality Management (TQM) and data-driven decision-making in academics. Throughout the session, he highlighted practical strategies for mapping Course Outcomes (COs) to Program Outcomes (POs), designing effective assessment rubrics, and utilizing digital tools for accurate performance analysis and continuous quality enhancement.

Participation and Collaboration

Faculty members from various states across the country participated in the workshop with great enthusiasm, actively engaged in discussions, and interacted vibrantly throughout the session. The interactive segments encouraged participants to pose questions, discuss institutional practices, and share ideas on how to adapt OBE principles to their respective academic settings. Feedback received during the event highlighted the practical relevance of the workshop and its potential to inspire meaningful academic reforms.

Organizational Excellence

The event was thoughtfully organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MES KEVEEYAM College under the able leadership of the IQAC Coordinator and Principal-in-Charge, Mr Nisab T, and the Programme Coordinator, Mr Krishna Prabha KS. The seamless coordination, careful planning, and dedicated efforts of the faculty and administrative staff reflected the college’s strong commitment to academic excellence and quality enhancement.
