7-Day Online Faculty Development Programme on Outcome Based Education(OBE)

The PG Department of Computer Applications and The Internal Quality Assurance cell(IQAC) of Marian College Kuttikkanam(Autonomous) in association with The Kerala State Higher Education Council Organized one week National Level Online Faculty Development program on Outcome Based Education(OBE) in Computer Science discipline from 8th to 15th December 2022. The Sessions were conducted through live webinars along with hands-on activities through Learning Management Portal(LMS).

Resource Persons:

Dr.K.Satheesh Kumar, Professor, Department of Future Studies, University of Kerala.

An academician with 25+ years of experience. Expertise in High-Performance Computing(HPC) and working on developing accurate wind speed prediction models and computational tools for large-scale social networks.

Dr.Mendus Jacob, Professor & Director MCA, Marian College, Kuttikkanam(Autonomous)

A Former Director of the School of Applicable Mathematics, M.G. University, M.D & C.E.O of IPSR Solutions. He is an Academician and Entrepreneur with 30+ years of experience and a resource person for FDPs in OBE, NEP, and Accreditation.

Dr.Sunil Job K.A, Adjunct Faculty, Marian College, Kuttikkanam(Autonomous)

An Academician with 25+ years of experience. Former College Principal and an OBE Specialist Blogger and Resource person for National conferences and FDPs. Chief of Academic Solutions- IPSR. 

Dr.Binu Thomas, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Applications, Marian College, Kuttikkanam(Autonomous)

An Academician with more than 20 years of experience, well versed in OBE and a Resource Person for a number of FDPs in OBE, Innovative Teaching, Learning and Evaluation, Virtual Learning etc.

Dr.Suresh Namboothiri, Founder Member, Espoir Technologies, Pune.

A Product Development specialist with 30+ years of experience sought after interviewer for senior positions of leading companies, Former COO, Tata motors and part of the team that developed India’s first car Tata Indica.

Mr.Amel Mathai, Technology Delivery Manager, Red Hat- South Asia

An avid Open Source Technologist with 18+ years of experience in the IT industry. He started his career with Red Hat as a consultant, later moved to the instructor, and examiner and currently serving as Technology Delivery Manager- Training & Certifications.

Participants:

The participants were the Deans, HoDs and Faculty Members of the Computer Science discipline from various higher education institutions across the country. Around 750 educators from 400+ HEIs participated and benefitted from the 7-day sessions.

FDP on OBE Day 1 : (December 8th)

The 7-day Online Faculty Development Program on Outcome Based Education commenced at 7 pm on 8th December. 

The Programme was Inaugurated by Dr. Rajan Gurukkal (Vice Chairman, KSHEC)  in the presence of Dr. Rajan Varghese (Member Secretary, KSHEC) and other dignitaries.

During the inauguration, Dr.Mendus Jacob (Professor & Director MCA, Marian College, Kuttikkanam(Autonomous)) gave a Welcome speech and an Introductory address to all the dignitaries and resource persons. Dr. Rajan Varghese (Member Secretary, KSHEC) gave a presidential address and Dr.Rajan Gurukkal delivered an inaugural address.

The keynote address was given by Mr. Ramesh Padmanabhan(Director, Red Hat GLS – India & SAARC). Rev. Fr. Boby Alex Mannamplackal Manager, Marian College Kuttikkanam gave a special address. Finally, the vote of thanks was given by the principal of Marian, Dr.Ajimon George.

The Day-1 session of the FDP was handled by Dr SunilJob on Learning Domains

Blooms Taxonomy | Day 1 of 7 Day National Level FDP on ‘OBE in Computer Science Discipline

After the session, a lesson activity regarding the topic handled was provided in the LMS.

A padlet tutorial was given to the participants and a padlet task on Bloom’s Taxonomy levels was also given during the session.

FDP on OBE Day 2 : (December 9th)

On Day 2, The first session was on OBE and Formulation of Outcomes and the second session was on Assessment Designs and Mapping Outcomes. Both sessions were handled by Dr.Sunil Job.

Assessment Designs and Mapping Outcome | Day 2 Session 3 of 7-Day National Level FDP on OBE

A workshop task was given in the LMS with respect to the topics handled that day. Some MCQs and a Padlet task on Course Outcomes(Computer Science) were given.

FDP on OBE Day 3 : (December 10th)

The Day 3 session was handled by Dr.Mendus Jacob on the Calculation of Attainment in OBE and another session on Analytics Reports and Tools for Accreditation.

Outcome Based Evaluation | Day 3 of 7 Day National Level FDP on ‘OBE in Computer Science Discipline’

A task on CO Computation Prototype Model was given in order to familiarize the participants with the automated CO calculation and Analysis with respect to set targets.

FDP on OBE Day 4 : (December 12th)

The Day 4 session was handled by Dr.Suresh Namboothiri on OBE – The Underlying Threads.

The Case studies of OBE Implementation were given in the LMS.

Another session on Cloud Computing and OBE and Designing Curriculum for Python Programming was given By Rev. Sr. Regina SABS and Mr.Satheesh Kumar – the Faculty members of Marian college.

The Day 5 session was handled by Dr K Satheesh Kumar on Computer Science Teaching and Assessment – An OBE Approach

A task on innovative practices in teaching in software engineering was given in the LMS for the participants, which was optional.

FDP on OBE Day 7 : (December 15th)

The Day 7 session was handled by Dr Binu Thomas on Immersive Technologies for OBE Implementation.

 Mentimeter Polling:

Feedback on the overall experience of the FDP session was conducted through a mentimeter poll at the end of the session. Some questions were asked which the participants polled in the Mentimeter.
