Technical Session Led By

The technical sessions were conducted by Dr. Mendus Jacob, M.D. & CEO – ipsr solutions limited, Director – Valin Technologies (UK, USA, Canada), and Professor & Director – MCA, Marian College Kuttikkanam (Autonomous). A renowned academician and industry expert, Dr. Jacob delivered an insightful and highly interactive session focused on demystifying the implementation of OBE across academic institutions.

Session Highlights

Forenoon Session: Foundations and Framework of OBE

The forenoon session laid the groundwork for understanding the core concepts and structure of Outcome Based Education (OBE). Dr. Mendus Jacob began by tracing the evolution of OBE and its increasing significance in promoting learner-centric education. He elaborated on the fundamental components of OBE, including Course Outcomes (COs), Program Outcomes (POs), and Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs), and guided participants on how to clearly define and differentiate each of these.

MAR 2

A major focus was on the systematic mapping of COs with POs and PSOs, ensuring alignment between what is taught and what students are expected to achieve. Dr. Jacob also explained how to set appropriate performance indicators and attainment levels to accurately measure learning progress. An important tool highlighted during this session was Bloom’s Taxonomy, which aids in defining measurable learning outcomes across cognitive levels. Participants were actively engaged in reflecting on their existing curriculum frameworks and identifying areas where refinements could improve outcome alignment.

Afternoon Session: Practical Implementation and Assessment Strategies:

The afternoon session transitioned from theory to practice, offering hands-on guidance on implementing OBE effectively within academic environments. Dr. Jacob discussed strategies for designing rubrics and question papers that are outcome-based, ensuring assessments genuinely reflect the intended learning goals. He introduced methods for collecting and analysing data to evaluate outcome attainment, emphasizing the role of data in driving academic quality and continuous improvement.

Participants also explored feedback mechanisms that support the iterative development of teaching and learning strategies. Real-world challenges in applying OBE across various disciplines were addressed, with Dr. Jacob offering practical solutions based on institutional case studies and experiences. The session was highly interactive, featuring group discussions, collaborative activities, and practical examples that made the concepts more tangible and relevant for faculty members. This hands-on approach empowered participants to visualize how they could immediately apply OBE principles within their respective departments.

Introduction of deQ OBE – Smart Software for Quality-Assured OBE Processes:

A key highlight of the workshop was the introduction of deQ OBE, a comprehensive software platform developed by IPSR for ensuring quality-assured OBE practices in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Dr. Jacob provided a detailed walkthrough of the software’s features and benefits, which include:

  • Integration of learning outcomes, teaching plans, assessments, and reports

  • Multi-dimensional analytics and real-time monitoring of course outcomes

  • Streamlined internal and external academic collaboration

  • Automated generation of reports for accreditation and continuous quality improvement

deQ OBE serves as a Total Quality Management (TQM) tool in academics, promoting efficiency, effectiveness, and engagement by aligning learning strategies with clearly defined objectives. It facilitates data-driven decision-making and enhances the academic experience for educators and learners alike.

Participation and Collaboration:

The FDP witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 60 faculty members across all departments of the institution. Their active engagement in discussions, case studies, and collaborative tasks reflected a collective commitment to academic transformation. The programme also fostered interdisciplinary dialogue and opened avenues for institutional collaboration with IPSR in OBE implementation and digital transformation.

Organisational Excellence

The meticulous planning and execution of the FDP by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the leadership of Mar Baselios Christian College showcased their dedication to fostering professional growth among faculty. Their collaborative approach with IPSR AcademiX ensured the programme was both content-rich and practically oriented. The session reinforced the institution’s mission to maintain high academic standards through innovative strategies and partnerships.

Conclusion

The Faculty Development Programme on Outcome-Based Education was a resounding success, equipping educators with the knowledge and tools necessary for effective OBE implementation. The sessions delivered by Dr. Mendus Jacob provided practical insights, while the introduction of deQ OBE software opened new pathways for institutional quality assurance.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the leadership of Mar Baselios Christian College for their warm hospitality and unwavering commitment to academic excellence. This programme marks a significant step forward in transforming teaching and learning practices in alignment with global educational standards.
